Fritos & Jello Pie

That is a LOT of canned food in one meal. Heck, in one pan. Amazing how many of these midcentury meals would adapt very well to a post-apocalyptic menu.”Ethel! Go down to the cellar and see how many cans of condensed soup are left!”

So wrong.

So wrong.

This is from Life Magazine, 1942. Pretty damned weird. Yes, here is a normal, wholesome couple in Hawaii. She is blonde & petite, he is tall & strong. They are eating ice cream (how wonderful!), she is fat by today’s standards but fine for then. And they carry gas masks. Wow. Just wow.

Oh my gosh this is great. From 1956. The folks at the General Mills test kitchen & marketing department really put some strong & probably desperate effort into this. Basically they list each of their mixes, which at the time apparently numbered four, then they listed variations all starting from each mix. I can saw of it that it was a time that loved sugar.
